A must read for Sci-Fi fans, and available at All You Can Books – Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of the most well known books in the world. Written by Jules Verne and published in 1864, the original language of this novel was French with the title Voyage au centre de la Terre.
Journey to the Center of the Earth details the adventures of a professor, his nephew and hired guide into the center of the Earth, accessed via a volcano in Iceland (since volcanos were believed to be a tubular route to the Earth’s center). On their journey, they encounter the passage of time and experience life as it was back in prehistoric times, surrounded by animals and natural hazards of centuries before common era. Their trip ends when they finally exit the earth’s core, surfacing in the south of Italy.
Inspiration for this book was based on Geological Evidences of the Antiquity of Man of 1863, a work by the great British geologist Charles Lyell in which he suggests that human life existed far before the last glacial period.
While this novel does not have the lasting power as many of Jules Verne’s other books, it still remains a popular one.
